Celli's Livejournal
Fanfic 101 (writing site and personal fic archive)
Omega-17 (co-run Alias smut archive)
I. Me
1. Celli isn't your real name, is it?
Not according to my birth certificate. But I've used it so long, I answer to it as easily as Sheila.
2. Where are you from?
The beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. I've also lived in Southern California, DC, and Vermillion SD.
3. You talk about your dad a lot. Do you still live at home?
Yes, and I'm not defensive about it at ALL.
4. What do you do for a living?
For part of the year, I do income taxes, and y'all get Stupid Tax Stories
(although no details, for confidentiality reasons). In the summer, I work for
the SD Department of Tourism, and you get Stupid Tourist Stories. Everybody
wins!
I'm also back in school working on my Masters in business, and I have a job through the university.
5. What do you want to be when you grow up?
A CPA.
5a. Really?
Really.
6. But you're always talking about writing.
My first degree was in English, and I do have a book in progress. Can't I be both?
7. Did you really get arrested once?
II. Cast of Characters
1. How big *is* your family?
Good question.
My twin sister Shannon (the good twin, not to be confused with Shelley, my
online evil twin) lives on the East Coast, and her job is to be successful
enough for both of us. She's also a travel nut, and her goal is to see every state in the Union--how cool is that?
She shows up in here periodically and everyone who's read
her comments loves her as much as I do.
My brother BT is in the Army, and is currently stationed in Korea.
My youngest sister is a college student, studying to be a professional
consciousness-raiser.
I have a younger brother (CJ) and stepbrother who live with my mom and stepdad on a
ranch a few hours from me. They come visit me and play on my Playstation
whenever they can. I also blame them for my unfortunate VeggieTales addiction,
the fact that I know the names of all the original Power Rangers, and my ability
to converse for hours on the difference between the original Star Wars trilogy and the prequels.
My dad's a carpenter, a fellow NASCAR and JAG fan, and a much better cook than
me.
There's also a collection of stepsibs, nieces, and nephews. Don't even ask about my (18) cousins.
2. I'm almost afraid to ask about your friends.
But you're going to anyway, right?
2a. Well, yes.
JenC is my best friend and favorite writer. She's my co-professor over at
Fanfic 101. She and I always develop the
same obsessions, whether it's Alias, the Mummy movies, or Ben Affleck.
She's also the parent of twins, the funniest person you'll ever
meet, and the inventor of the exploding squirrel theory.
Don't ask.
2b. The exploding--?
Didn't I just say don't ask?
2c. Sorry.
Liss (aka icecrystal45) does taxes and studies accounting with me. We also
share a deep obsession--I mean love--for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
She's the mom of the two "devil children" (her name) I babysit, who show up in my Smallville stories as "Laura" and "P.J."
The Horsechicks, or HCs, are a group known for their Buffy love, their vidding, and their general insanity. We have a fic rec community and most of us are on lj individually as well.
My friends list is chock full of even more cool people. Check it out!
III. Fannishness
1. You sure talk about a lot of shows.
Well, yes.
1a. Do you watch them *all*?
Some of them more faithfully than others.
1b. Okay, which ones are you really into?
My big two are Smallville and Alias. Not far behind: LotR, Firefly, JAG. And I keep an eye on a lot of other shows so I can bibble about them. You never know when you'll end up in a discussion of Touched by an Angel, Without a Trace, or Stargate SG-1.
2. How do you have time?
A TV in my computer room and a natural gift for multitasking.
3. I bet your tape collection is huge.
I don't want to talk about it.
4. How many fandoms have you written fic for?
At last count, 19. Ish.
4a. And you've written slash, het, and gen?
I have.
4b. That's not very common, is it?
More than you think. It depends on what I feel like that day, and what suits the story I want to tell best.
5. Do you have any WiPs (works in progress)?
(insert hysterical laughter here) Oh, yes. I rarely post more than snippets until I'm done, though, unless I get on a roll and am *sure* I'm going to finish it.
6. Do you talk about writing a lot?
Yeah. Check just about any entry in the lj or over at Fanfic 101.
7. Who are these L&N guys that keep showing up in your music selection?
Lowen & Navarro got their big break writing "We Belong" for Pat Benatar. Now they're a singing/songwriting duo with a cult following, and I'm a happy cultist.
8. What other music do you listen to?
A lot of country.
8a. Really?
Look, I'm from South Dakota. You expected grunge?
9. What else?
I'm pretty eclectic. Barenaked Ladies. Sarah McLachlan. Anything my friends recommend to me/sit on me and make me listen to.
10. What about books?
Romance: Nora Roberts/JD Robb, Jennifer Crusie, Julia Quinn.
Suspense: Dick Francis, Tom Clancy
Fantasy/SciFi: Patricia C. Wrede, Lois McMaster Bujold, Robin McKinley, J.K.
Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis
Young Adult: Laura Ingalls Wilder, L.M. Montgomery, L. Frank Baum, the Trixie
Belden books
Nonfiction: anything about profiling, forensic science, or writing.
11. You read a lot.
You noticed that?
11a. I'm very observant.
I lived in the only house on the block where you regularly heard, "Put that book down!"
12. Sports?
Football, NASCAR, figure skating, sometimes hockey. Nothing obsessive.
12a. Really?
Usually.
IV. Livejournal and Websites
1. Do you read everyone on your friends list?
I sure try. I like all the people on my friends list and I want to read what they have to say. But. When my life gets crazy, computer time is the first thing to go.
By the way, that applies to comments as well. My goal is always to answer all of them, but I don't always succeed. I'm sorry.
2. If I friend you, will you friend me back?
Sometimes. I'm always flattered when someone friends me, and I check my "friend of" journals whenever I have time. But I don't automatically friend back. Also, when I'm busy, it might take me a couple of weeks to have time to find out who you are.
3. So, if you friend me, I don't have to friend you back?
Nope, although you're definitely welcome to. :)
4. How do I get added to/removed from your Alias blog list?
Email me with your link.
5. Do you read all of *those*?
That page is more of a general reference. Some of them I read daily; some whenever I have time.
6. Do I need to know you to friend you or comment in your lj?
Nope. I meet the coolest people when they appear in my life like that.
7. Will you get upset if I take you off my friends list?
I will cry and moan and rend my garments. Just kidding.
I always notice when someone takes me off, but I know people and their interests change. I'm not going to assume you hate me. You don't hate me, do you? Do you?
8. Who are the guys on your banner?
From left to right: Orlando Bloom, Greg Grunberg, Michael Rosenbaum's hands, Josh Charles, Peter Krause.
9. Where do you get your icons?
My baby Photoshop skills are responsible for a couple. The rest were given to me by my wonderful friends. Check my icon graveyard to see all my present and past icons and avatars, with links to the people who made them.
10. What other nifty lj toys do you have?
11. So, I was over at Fanfic 101...
*wince*
11a. When are you going to update that?
The fic sections are updated as often as possible after I post new stories. The main page is updated when I have new essays. Sometimes it takes a few months, when all my essay people are busy.
If you want to know right away, check out the what's new page or subscribe to the announcement list at the bottom of that same page.
12. Do you take submissions for Fanfic 101?
Sure. Send me an email with your idea for an essay, and my co-prof and I will talk to you about it. :)
13. What about Omega-17? When is that updated?
Unless my life is *really* crazy (which it has been), o-17 is updated with new stories on a monthly basis. Updates are listed on the index page and announced to the omega- 17 mailing list.
14. Doesn't all this take a lot of time?
Heh. Remember you asked that the next time I'm late, which should be any second. But I love to do it, so it makes the time worthwhile.
